Description

Markon is seeking a Structural Engineer to support the Naval Nuclear Laboratory’s Facility Design organization at the Knolls site. This position will work within a multidisciplinary project team supporting building and utility construction projects, from defining project scope and developing design documentation through construction-phase engineering and coordination with facility personnel, contractors, and architectural engineering firms.

 

NOTE: This position requires regular onsite work at the Knolls location and may be performed remotely up to 20% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a project team environment to support construction projects at the Knolls site.
  • Collaborate with project sponsors to develop and define project scope.
  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams to develop project specifications.
  • Develop and support project cost estimates.
  • Perform engineering reviews of project drawings and design documentation.
  • Provide structural engineering support throughout the construction phase of building and utility projects.
  • Oversee architectural and engineering firms in the development of project concept designs.
  • Oversee the development and review of construction documents and associated cost estimates.
  • Develop and review structural engineering calculations and contract documents.
  • Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Support construction inspections and resolution of engineering issues encountered during construction.
  • Apply applicable building codes and engineering standards to structural design and construction activities.
  • Coordinate and interact with facility staff and contractors throughout project execution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience performing structural engineering tasks.
  • Experience developing contract documents, engineering calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards.
  • Experience with construction administration, including:
    • Submittal reviews.
    • Requests for Information (RFIs).
    • Construction inspections.
    • Related construction-phase engineering activities.

Desired:

  • An active DOE L clearance or active DoD Secret or above.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Engineering consulting experience.
  • Working knowledge of New York State Building Codes.
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards.
  • Working knowledge of ASCE standards.

Salary Range

USD $120,000.00 - USD $140,000.00 /Yr.

The Markon pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
